Three Aspects Of Garage Door Maintenance To Avoid Overlooking
A modern garage door system will require many different components to work in unison to provide you with the type of consistent performance that you expect. However, there are homeowners that will frequently underestimate the importance of these doors, and this can lead them to neglect to care for some of the easier to overlook components.
The Door Rollers
In order to move up and down, your garage door system will use a series of rollers to help guide the door along the tracks. While these rollers will typically be extremely durable, they can be prone to encountering some problems if they are allowed to become coated in dirt and dust. This is due to these materials being able to cause jams to form. In addition to these issues, you may also find that corrosion can create serious problems as well can the rust can weaken these rollers so that they are unable to adequately support the weight of the door.
The Torsion Spring
The torsion spring is a part of the garage door opener that can be easy to overlook due to it being located near the ceiling and out of your normal line of sight. However, if the torsion spring for your garage door starts to encounter damages, it may be unable to open or close the garage door due to it either snapping or becoming too warped for this task. In these situations, the torsion spring will likely need to be replaced so that the door can function against. Yet, this is a very dangerous task as these springs can be under tremendous pressure. Whenever you notice that the torsion spring has started to encounter performance issue it is advisable to hire a professional to replace the spring so that you can avoid causing potentially serious physical injuries to yourself.
The Exterior Weatherstripping
Drafts that are able to make it through your garage door can severely reduce the energy efficiency of your home while also making the garage a fairly unpleasant place to be. Preventing these drafts will fall on the weatherstripping that is placed between the panels of the door. Regretfully, it can be common for homeowners to be unaware that this weatherstripping will need to be periodically replaced to keep these drafts out. Luckily, replacing the weatherstripping is one of the easier repairs to make, and you should be able to complete this work without hiring a professional garage door repair technician.
