Garage Door Repairs: 3 Problems You May Experience

Garage doors can be pretty reliable and can last for years. This is often why garage doors are overlooked until they actually stop operating. Luckily, when they do stop working, though, the problem and its solution are often pretty easy to define and repair. Here are three problems you may experience as well as how to fix them:

Problem #1: Your Garage Door Is Just Not Working Right.

In many cases, when you garage door isn't working properly, it is the result of the lack of maintenance. So, before you do anything else, you need to do a little bit of maintenance. Take a close look at the garage door tracks and rollers. Is there dust, dirt and grime built up on them? When was the last time that they were cleaned? If you can't even remember, then it is definitely time that you give them a good cleaning and add some special lubricant. More often than not, your garage door will be working smoothly again after this.

Problem #2: You Have an Extremely Noisy Garage Door.

One of the most annoying things that you can experience with your garage door is loud, weird noises. This is particularly true if your bedroom is near the garage door. Luckily, there are several different solutions to silencing the noisy door.

  • You will want to begin by tightening any nuts and bolts on the track as well as the door.
  • It is also important that you lubricate all moving parts, as these vibrate and can often cause noise if they're not properly oiled and maintained.
  • If you have metal rollers, you may want to consider replacing them with nylon rollers, as they are much quieter.
  • Check the insulation strip that is location at the bottom of the garage door. If it is missing or simply worn out, you may hear noise as the garage door closes. Consider replacing it with a new one.

Problem #3: Your Garage Door Is Frozen Shut.

During the wintertime, it isn't uncommon at all for your garage door to become frozen shut. This is the worst time of year for your garage door not to work for you, as it is when it is most convenient for you to use. Sometimes, the ice can be broken by simply hitting your garage door opener button. However, if there is enough ice, the door won't budge. When this is the case, don't hit your button multiple times, as this will only cause even more issues, such as a burned out motor, broken coils, etc. Instead, try to melt the ice with a hair dryer, heat gun or de-icing products. Then, once the door is open, you will want to clear away any ice, snow, and water from the area where the door rests on the garage floor.

When you can't seem to figure out what is going on with your garage door or don't have the time to on your own, don't hesitate to contact a garage door repair company, like Garage Door Pros, in your local area for assistance.
